"If we're right, some of these new players will be drawn to the high quality experiences offered by [such companies as Electronic Arts (EA), Activision Blizzard (ATVI) and Take-Two Entertainment (TTWO) and we ought to see a lift in purchases of consoles and games in the coming years.

A recent poll conducted for BTIG discovered that more than a fifth of "Fortnite" players weren't previously Fortnite Items players; another 5% played or even less.

Investors seem optimistic. A basket of console videogame stocks monitored by Stifel recently traded approximately 26 times forward 12-month EPS quote, representing a 50% premium to the S&P 500.

"Videogame publishers are certainly facing near-term competition from Fortnite," BTIG's Brandon Ross wrote in late April.
